BENEFITS OF FLOAT THERAPY
Float therapy offers numerous benefits for both the body and mind. Here are some of the key advantages:
Stress Reduction: Floating provides a peaceful and tranquil environment, free from external distractions. This promotes relaxation and helps reduce stress levels. The weightlessness experienced during float therapy allows your muscles to fully relax, releasing tension and promoting a sense of deep calm.
Pain Relief: The buoyancy of the floatation tank alleviates pressure on joints, muscles, and the spine, providing relief from chronic pain conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain. The relaxation response induced by float therapy can also help reduce muscle soreness and promote faster recovery after physical exertion or injury.
Mental Clarity and Concentration: Float therapy can enhance mental focus and concentration. The absence of external stimuli allows your mind to enter a meditative state, helping to clear mental clutter and improve cognitive function. Many people report enhanced problem-solving abilities and increased creativity after float sessions.
Improved Sleep: Floating can have a positive impact on sleep quality. The deep relaxation experienced during a float session can help regulate sleep patterns, reduce insomnia, and promote more restful sleep. The sensory deprivation environment encourages the release of endorphins, which can contribute to a sense of relaxation and better sleep.
Stress and Anxiety Relief: Float therapy has shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and stress-related disorders. The deep relaxation helps to calm the mind and promote a sense of well-being. Some studies have even suggested that float therapy can help reduce symptoms of depression.
Enhanced Athletic Performance: Floating aids in muscle recovery by reducing inflammation and promoting blood flow. Athletes can benefit from the weightlessness and reduced gravitational stress on their bodies, allowing for faster recovery from intense workouts or injuries.
Mind-Body Connection: Float therapy offers an opportunity to disconnect from external distractions and reconnect with yourself. It can help foster a deeper mind-body connection and increase self-awareness. Many individuals report a heightened sense of mindfulness and introspection during float sessions.
It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary, and float therapy should not replace medical or mental health treatment. However, many people find float therapy to be a valuable addition to their wellness routine, offering a unique and rejuvenating experience for both the body and mind.
PRE-FLOAT PREPARATION AND OPTIMIZATION
Make sure you bring everything you may need or want – The float pool is in a private room with a shower. A bathing suit is not necessary unless you prefer one. If you do, you may want to bring a bag for your wet suit. We supply shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion (for after your float). We provide towels, earplugs, bathrobe, spa slippers and q-tips and petroleum jelly should you have a small cut that needs to be protected from burning salt-water. You may want to bring a hairbrush or comb for after your post-float shower. We simply will move you to nearby shower room that has a hair dryer so we can prepare the float room for the next person. You are also welcomed to put on makeup in this room if you would like.
Caffeine – Avoid caffeine and other stimulants at least 2-3 hours before you float as they may interrupt your relaxation response.
Eating – Have a bit of food on your stomach. A snack or small meal 60-90 minutes ahead of time can reduce the chances of your belly growling, which can cause disruption when you are in the pool.
Shaving– Do not shave the day of your float. Shaving can cause the skin to sting during your float due to the high concentration of Epson salts in the pool. Any small cuts or lesions may be covered with petroleum jelly that we will provide.
Restroom – We advise you to use the restroom before you float – an easy distraction to avoid.
Hydration – Ensure you are well hydrated the day of your float therapy session.
Remove contact lenses – If you wear contacts, you may want to bring a contact case or wear glasses. If saltwater gets in your eyes during your float, having contacts in makes it difficult to rinse water out quickly. We have contact solution for you should you need it and contact lens cases if you forget yours.
Consider some transition time into your plan – Coming straight from a long day at work or hurrying to make it on time through traffic may leave you feeling frazzled. We encourage people to stack their float with another service to help them relax and prepare for their float.
Pre-float is a wonderful time for a massage. In fact, I think this is one of the best things you can do before your very first float. It helps you go into a new experience already relaxed. Post-float is also beneficial as your muscle tissue will be soft and more pliable requiring less time for the massage therapist to warm your tissues for deeper work.
Infrared sauna is a beautiful compliment for post float and will allow you to keep the relaxation vibe going strong. You may want to consider the sauna after the float rather than prior as it may raise your body temperature to a level that could make you a little chilly during your float.
After your float, you are welcome to spend time our lounge if you would like to sit and further relax and decompress before you leave. It has recliners with light massage and a comfy sofa. It is stocked with fruit infused water and tea. You may choose to bring a pen and journal or notepad to record thoughts, ideas, or experiences soon after your float.
